In an article entitled "The Case for Marketing in the Municipal Sector," author Jim Mintz, Managing Partner of the Centre of Excellence for Public Sector Marketing, said: "Marketing is universally recognized as one of the most important elements in business management. In the economically challenging twenty-first century, it may also become one of the most important functions of city management."

If what Mintz says is true, in what ways should municipalities be marketing themselves? How can a website help?

Once upon a time I advised a small business owner that she didn't need a website, but that she could create her online presence using a Facebook Page as her digital hub. Oh, if I could only retract those words!
