Bizzuka is Moving to Rackspace
10/1/2009 8:26:53 AM
In a few short weeks, Bizzuka will be moving to its new home at Rackspace. While our current hosting facility is a top notch group, we have decided to move to "the world's leader in hosting."

Our new datacenter serves over 53,000 customers and has over 2,600 employees worldwide. Rackspace is one of the most highly respected hostproviders in the world. So much so, Facebook, the largest social network on the planet uses them.

The decision to move datacenters is never an easy one. The logistics of migrating close to 600 sites and multiple terabytes of data can be intimidating. However, we have moved server farms before so this isn’t new for us. We learned many lessons along the way and have a well scripted migration plan that will be rehearsed over and over long before the final move.

Bizzuka is committed to an uneventful move for all of our sites. The only thing our customers should notice is faster page load speeds once the move is complete.  The single most important reason we’re undertaking this effort is so that we can give you, our customer, a better experience. We’re growing at a rapid pace.

With additional Bizzuka services such as video (fliqz), email marketing (SoundOff), and social media tie-ins, we need to take action now to put in place the kind of infrastructure that will allow us to provide you with a top-notch user experience.

In addition to these great new features in our current system, we have been working on our new Content Management System. This is a totally new system and promises to bring Bizzuka and its customers to the next level. This server farm will better facilitate this new system as well.

For all the techies out there, here are some facts you may be interested in (the rest of you may wish to stop reading here).

The move to Rackspace will include many new upgrades including a new backend architecture and 15% more servers including doubling the number of database servers.

This facility has multiple backbones running into it and is a state of the art facility. This is a Sas70 environment and has more redundancy than our current facility. Each server will have more memory with more hard drive space. We will go from 32-bit to 64-bit operating systems. The new datacenter will be located in Ashburn, VA. I have more technical documentation if anyone is interested. There are too many improvements in too many parts of our process and infrastructure to cover in this already lengthy letter.

We will move some customers on October 11th. All other customer sites will move on the weekend of the October 24th and 25th. I will be following up this email with shorter more pointed emails to keep you informed as we progress through the next couple of weeks. You will also receive an email in the next day or two informing you of what schedule you will be on.

Thanks for sticking with us through our growing pains!
